BootsNBridles2 hour(s) ago SteveG- even funnier is that it USED to say Arctic Canyon Wash!! Floods wiped it out one year and when the county reinstalled it a worker had apparently decided it should be spelled Artic. If you check the map you'll find ARCTIC Canyon Rd both in Big Bear and in Lucerne- yep, leads to that wash.

SteveG19 hour(s) ago I usually just lurk here, but the "Arctic" discussion leads me to mention that on Hwy 18 down to Lucerne Valley, just a ways past the Mitsubishi mine area, there's a creek that runs under a bridge on the highway, and it's labeled "Artic Canyon Wash". Cracks me up every time I drive past.

Nuthatch1 day(s) ago Does Arctic have a silent C? The first “c” in the word arctic is not silent. The word is pronounced ahrk-tik, not ahrt-tik. I know that countless meteorologists and reporters will say it incorrectly, and this common mistake will undoubtedly lead to more widespread acceptance and perhaps even a secondary spelling (artic).
Polar 🌌rbit1 day(s) ago And I just blew it and miss-spelled surprise.
