They investigate fires to the best of their ability to determine the cause, along with any potential criminal culpability. Incident reports can be viewed at [Click Here]. Countless things can ignite a fire that should be watched for, both natural and man-made. Most wildfires, however, are caused by people and could have been prevented. Visit smokeybear.com to learn how you can help prevent forest fires.
Something really bugs me about these seemly random firse. We know about fires almost immediately which if course is a good thing. I want to know how it started. Was it lightning? Is it one of the river people being careless? What should the public be looking our for?
Good morning, Kai. I haven't traveled the route myself. But have been keeping an eye on conditions. According to CalTrans, "SR 38 [IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA] 1-way controlled traffic from Bryant St /in Redlands/ to Thurman Flats (San Bernardino Co) - Due to a wild fire"
Residents in the Hesperia, Apple Valley, and Victorville areas may notice visible smoke today from a fire at a local disposal and recycling facility. While the fire remains active, fire activity is minimal.

CreakyTree, fixed wing aircraft are not usually part of the show at night due to darkness. Earlier tonight Air Attack had requested 3 night flying helicopters (equipped with night flying gear) to work this incident tonight. Those are who you will see on the fire tonight. In the morning you will see fixed wing aircraft return such as the Air Attack and tankers as needed. Of course there is a large contingent of firefighters and equipment working the fire on the ground with fresh troops coming in first thing in the morning.
It seems that both of the fire mapping planes have left the area and just two water dropping helicopters are staying. Maybe they are not expecting it to grow any larger.
